Wool is an under used material. It allows for the bulk of deer hair without the flotation; it can be cast dry to land quietly and sink slowly in extremely shallow conditions or cast wet to sink more quickly. The Woolly Toad has a unique marabou hackle collar to give great movement when it's stripped or sinking. We originally tied this fly with a douple weed guard. Over time feedback convinced us the single post weed guard prevented fouling and resulted in better hook-ups.
