When we first tied an articulated version of Jack Gartside's Soft Hackle Streamer a trailing hook seemed unnecessary, the original is an exercise in simplicity and movement. When I first watched it fished for the first time from above on the bank, the added wiggle and length of the articulated version seemed entirely necessary. A very large landlocked salmon came out of nowhere, smashed it, broke off and disappeared.

The key to an effective Soft Hackle Streamer is the quality of the marabou. The fibers need to be long and wispy. We buy the best marabou possible dying it ourselves to get the perfect colors. We stray a bit from the original by adding a little bucktail inside for some subtle depth of color. Instead of the typical mallard collar we us pheasant rump.

Our Soft Hackles are tied in three versions: traditional, conehead and articulated each in four colors. An angler could have a box filled with nothing but Soft Hackles to fish where ever freshwater flows and expect success. The cone head is weighted with the cone and a touch of extra weight on the shank, the articulated version is weighted on the shank of the front hook and the #6 is completely un-weighted.

Note: The articulated Soft Hackle is tied on a #2 Gamakatsu B10 Stinger hook with a #2 SC15 trailing.

Note: When ordering choose either "Conehead" or "Articulated" not both.  For the un-weighted version choose neither option.
