Cockroach

A lot of Mexican and Central American lodges want tarpon anglers to show up with Cockroaches. Essentially these are Deceivers tied with a big bunch of marabou in between wide splayed stiff hackle tails. Many of the commercially available Cockroaches skimp on materials. To be effective this pattern needs to be tied big. Tarpon react to the movement of the marabou and the push of water caused by the robust hair collar. The thick collar also doubles as foul guard.

We offer the common burnt orange and grizzly plus colors custom tuned to tarpon tastes. The ginger Cockroach takes advantage of our supply of unique ginger-barred neck hackles, a great shrimp color, and buff yellow marabou. We also custom dyed a light golden olive to compliment the chartreuse Cockroach. These are not recommended patterns for Keys tarpon but have proven effective on tarpon in the Everglades and fish up the Gulf Coast of Florida through the panhandle. The smaller size is a great choice for backwater baby tarpon.
